Frequently Asked Questions
Compliance & Standards FAQs
These FAQs cover inspection, testing, certification and Australian Standard compliance for lifting, rigging and height safety equipment.
How often does lifting equipment need to be inspected?
Inspection frequency depends on the type of equipment, how it is used, the operating environment and the applicable Australian Standard. Operators should complete pre-use checks before every lift. Formal inspections must be carried out by a competent person at defined intervals based on risk and compliance requirements.

If a component is replaced, does the lifting assembly need to be proof tested?
In many cases, yes. Replacing a component alters the lifting assembly. Proof testing (load testing) confirms the assembly remains safe, correctly rated and compliant after modification.
Arrange proof testing or certification.

Can damaged lifting components be repaired instead of discarded?
Some lifting components may be repaired if permitted by the relevant Australian Standard and carried out by a qualified provider. Any item that does not meet inspection or rejection criteria must be removed from service.

Product FAQs
These FAQs focus on lifting and rigging products to help select compliant equipment for specific applications.
Can you supply custom sized synthetic slings?
Yes. Synthetic slings can be manufactured to custom lengths, working load limits and configurations to suit specific lifting requirements.
Do you supply lifting beams?
Yes. Stenhouse supplies lifting beams and engineered lifting solutions and can also arrange testing and certification.
What is the difference between fibre core and wire core wire rope?
Fibre core wire rope offers greater flexibility and lubrication retention. Wire core wire rope provides higher strength, improved crush resistance and greater heat tolerance.
Can I replace damaged hooks on a chain sling myself?
No. Replacing hooks alters the chain sling assembly. This work must be completed by a competent provider so the sling can be correctly rated, tested and certified before use.
